F3000 starts:

17 (2000-2001)

Switched to the European F3000 series, winning the championship in 2002, and also tried Formula Nissan and the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup. Then became an touring car racer in his homeland after spending years as an endurance racer, mostly in ALMS or the WEC, although he hasn't had a drive since 2013. Jaime was also the GT2 class champion in the FIA GT series in 2006 and the American Le Mans Series the following year. Jaime started his career in 1996, initially appearing in Brazilian Formula Ford. His racing career came to a standstill after being involved in a escape from police for drink driving and causing an accident in Cascavel, for which he served a prison sentence. He has then tried to overcome his alcohol and depression but in 2017, he was again detained by military police officers after refusing to stop and try to flee after causing an accident, driving into the police car and resisting arrest, refusing to take a breathalyser test, being drunk whilst driving and also for possession of drugs. Melo is currently serving another sentence and has been banned from driving again.
