2003 Formula 3000 champion with the Arden team, Wirdheim then became Jaguar's reserve driver. However, when the team became Red Bull, he was dropped and never got back to having a deserved chance in Formula 1. Instead, Bjorn went to the US and raced in CART, but in more recent years he has moved to Japan, and appeared in Super Formula and Super GT, the latter of which he raced until 2017. In 2018, he returned to his homeland and raced in the Swedish Porsche Carrera Cup series. Wirdheim was the son of a former touring car driver, but it was in Swedish Formula Ford that Bjorn began his career back in 1996. Nowadays, Bjorn, although he still races in one-off races in Japan and Sweden is not racing full-time any longer. He is a commentator for Swedish television on Formula 1 and he works on the development of drivers in the Swedish Porsche Carrera Cup. He also does some historic racing.
