After a mixed and stop-start Formula 1 career, which promised much, but delivered relatively little, Vitantonio went into Italian touring cars and the World Endurance Championship. He then moved to Japan, and raced in Super GT and Super Formula, before returning to Europe in 2015 to once again appear in the WEC. In 2017, Vitantonio was in the International GT Open Series. In 2018, he was in Asian GT racing with some other drives in sportscars. He does still race on rare occasions (2021 saw him in the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup), but mainly focuses on his full-time role as a FIA F1 steward, working as a driver coach and working in Italian media. Liuzzi lives in Italy and Switzerland and is brother-in-law to fellow racing driver Andrea Caldarelli.
