Killed in a sportscar race. A very capable sportscar driver, he took class wins in both the Mille Miglia and the Targa Florio. Piero started his career once World War Two was over after finding the funds to buy a Maserati. A friend of the Marzotto brothers, he raced for them for a while in sportscars and Formula 2, which then led to him making World Championship starts accordingly before joining Ferrari as a works driver in 1953, which included more sportscar drives and an appearance at the Italian Grand Prix. Carini remained with Ferrari until his death, with one of his best performances coming in 1955, when he won the Dakar Grand Prix sportscar event.
