Until his retirement in 2017, Angelelli raced in various GT and sportscar championships since 1996, mainly based in the United States. In 2005 he won Daytona and the Grand-Am title and continued in the series until it became part of the USCS in 2014, in which he continues to compete in. He took another Daytona win in 2017 after which he immediately retired. Max was one of Grand-Am's most successful drivers, but his single-seater career largely was stagnant and non-spectacular with the exception of the obvious highlight of the 1992 Italian Formula 3 title. Unfortunately, Angelelli was hamstrung to go further with his career due to a lack of a suitable budget and his one Formula 3000 race ended in a crash, so the chance never came round again. Max now works as a driver consultant and motorsports consultant for his old friend Wayne Taylor, but also keeps other links with the sport. In 2019, he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
