A top sportscar driver after a single-seater career which promised much but never quite delivered, he won Sebring and Le Mans in 2005 and was ALMS Champion the previous year. Later worked as a TV commentator and raced in rallies in his homeland, but in 2010 he was involved in, but survived, albeit with serious injuries, a boat accident in which his friend died. This led, in late 2011, to him being sentenced to prison for two years due to manslaughter. However, he won his appeal in 2012 and is now a free, and innocent man, but decided to keep a low profile. He mainly rides his Harley Davidson motorbike around his homeland and also helps young Finnish racing drivers. However, in more recent years, JJ has done a few corporate roles for McLaren, demonstrating their car to prospective clients, as well as having some more track time through historic link-ups with the firm. In 2018, he took up a mechanic and coaching role for Finnish karters.
