Despite being really talented at tennis, so much so that as a teenager, Mikko represented his country in the Davis Cup, Mikko moved into motorsport. He started off in Super Vee in his home country, before moving over to Europe, where he became 1975 European Super Vee champion. However his rise up the ranks was interrupted by two years of military service. Formula 2 and Formula 1 didn't go well and he quit in 1977 to start his business. Now lives in Sittard in Holland, where he still runs a business and also plays golf.
