Former World Rally Championship competitor and rally winner between 1982-1986. Mika still keeps links with the sport through work at a driving school and also has done some commentating. Son Joni also raced, and the two now work together at 4 Nature, a construction business especially set up for prefab designs. Arpiainen also won in European Formula Vee in 1976, winning the championship with ten wins. Mika also won the Finnish Touring Car Championship Group A title in 1986 and 1987. Arpiainen also competed in sportscars and touring cars during his career which stretched from the early 1970's to the late 1980's. Arpiainen had a potential F2 drive with ATS, with a testing tieup of their F1 cars but he was running a clothing business called Leonardo which was becoming more successful so Mika quit to earn more money that way, although he had also some concerns about the safety of the sport. In 2020, with the onset of coronavirus, Mika's company became one the most frequent manufacturers of face masks, all made of recyclable materials.
