Frequent competitor in Formula 3 (He raced in Italy, Germany and England) in the 1970's and 1980's, Severo is no longer involved in the sport directly. He does follow it though, and his grandson has also been involved in karting. Zampatti lives in Lurate Caccivio but is of Spanish ancestry and has links to Barcelona, where he has real estate and construction business interests. Zampatti entered his own cars in Formula 3, but drove a Toleman-Hart entered by San Remo Racing for his only Formula 2 appearance at Misano in 1982. However, for some years, he was entangled with the law over accusations that he was heavily involved in cocaine and hashish smuggling, both in Italy and Britain.
