Now lives in Jarabacoa, in the Dominican Republic. His son has also raced, in karting, and Marco has helped advise and coach him. Marco used to run a restaurant in the popular Sosua Beach tourist resort, before concentrating on his work as a tennis coach. However, he now runs an Italian restaurant in Jarabacoa. Marco thankfully survived a serious assault on him in summer 2014 with no long-term injuries. As a racer, Brand's finest achievement was probably being back-to-back Champion of the Italian Renault 5 Cup in 1984 and 1985.
