Also raced as simply ''Gianfranco''. Remained in the sport as a team boss for a while as he ran the specialist Promec sportscar team. As a driver, Gianfranco was most successful in sportscars, in which he raced for decades, starting in 1971 and then only stopping in 2012, when he appeared in the Italian Prototype Championship. Trombetti now works as an engineering consultant, but also has business interests in metalworks.
