Lives in Holland, but was so disappointed with how his time in Formula 1 went, decided to keep a distance from the sport. He still follows the sport, but doesn't attend any current or historic events. Roelof instead became involved in the property business. He started his racing career in 1970 in saloon car racing, before taking consecutive Dutch Formula Ford titles in 1972 and 1973. He moved to Formula 3 thereafter and then to F1, but seemed to lose interest after a crash in a Formula 5000 test at Zandvoort, where he suffered a broken cheekbone. The combination of everything saw him leave the sport completely at the end of the 1975 season.
