Shot down whilst flying for the French Air Service during the First World War, Boillot was one of France's greatest drivers pre-war. He won the 1912 and 1913 French Grand Prix and the 1910 Targa Florio, amongst other notable victories. Boillot was a trained mechanic who started racing in the late 1900's. Georges originally started his war service as a driver for General Joseph Joffre, who was commander-in-chief of France's forces on the Western Front, before transferring to aeroplanes. He was awarded the Legion D'Honneur just a month before his death. Jean, son of Georges who won some of his earliest races in a Lion-Peugeot, later became director-general of Peugeot in the late 1970's.
