Varied and experienced racer, mainly in sportscars and CART, he still visited races before his death in 2010 from prostate cancer. Dick's best result in the CART series was in 1981, when he finished 6th at Michigan. He also worked as a mechanic, specialising in Ferrari cars in particular. Dick also had a very brief role in the Lassie television show when he was a boy scout; his troop had a special involvement in one of the shows, The Young Flyers, which was filmed in 1959, with George Chandler starring. Ferguson, who was based in Glendale, never had the funds to progress as far as he wanted in racing, but did run a company that specialised in exotic car commercials for television.
