Worked for the Cole Motor Company, and all his racing came via the Indianapolis based firm - Edmunds working as a sometime test driver. As well as his appearance at the very first Indianapolis, he also raced for Cole, in 1910, at Long Island's Massapequa Sweepstakes, finishing third. Often referred to as being from Indianapolis, Edmunds - whose actual name was spelt Lewis - came from New York, moving to Indianapolis for work. A mechanic and car dealer, he moved to California around 1917 and stayed there for the rest of his life. His mother was from England.
