Most of Mark's time now is taken up by the successful family business, Comet Kart Sales. His father, Emerson, died in 2003, so Mark took over the complete business full-time, but continues to drive karts and runs a kart track in his home town, where he lives. His son, also called Mark, is also a racing driver. Dismore began karting at eleven years old, but due to his connections to karting, didn't make the switch to racing cars until he was nearly 30. He impressed in Formula Atlantic and won the 1990 Western Division title, but also took a notable Daytona 24 Hours win in 1993 and a win in the IRL in 1999 at the Texas Motor Speedway.
