A quiet, relatively shy man, who might possibly have achieved better results with a more steely personality, Klausler raced in Formula Ford, Formula Atlantic and Can-Am before his CART spell, winning at St. Jovite in 1977 in the latter, and finishing runner-up in Formula Atlantic's 1974 Championship. After a spell of working in a raceshop once he quit driving, Tom then spent many years working for McLaren Engines in Michigan. He occasionally visits historic events, but very much in the background, still keeping links to fellow Formula Atlantic racers like James King and Bobby Rahal.
