A quiet, relatively shy man, who might possibly have achieved better results with a more steely personality, Klausler raced in Formula Ford, Formula Atlantic and Can-Am before his CART spell, winning at St. Jovite in 1977 in the latter, and finishing runner-up in Formula Atlantic's 1974 Championship. After a spell of working in a raceshop once he quit driving, Tom now works for McLaren Engines in Michigan.
