Sometimes listed as Mario da Silva. Silva has had a long racing career, starting in rallies in the mid 1970's, with which he is arguably best identified. He has also raced in sportscars, mainly in Spanish GT racing, but also in touring cars. He is still racing, in both current (Portuguese GT series) and historic GT events, as well as rallying, again both current and historic, cars and even trucks, mainly in his homeland. Mario is also is a classic car owner. Silva now lives in Cascais. Silva's single-seater career was pretty short and he failed to qualify for his home event in his one Formula 2 attempt but he has enjoyed over 40 pretty successful years elsewhere in the sport.
