Dallest was a Formula 3 and Formula 2 stalwart, who won the prized Volant Elf competition (and subsequently a sponsored drive in French Formula Renault) in 1973, but lack of sponsorship hit his F1 hopes, despite being more than able - he even had a test with Lotus to assess his suitability for a drive in 1980. After a brief return to French Formula 3 in 1987, Dallest quit racing and moved into racing driver instruction for both the Paul Ricard circuit's training programme and for his old team, AGS and their racing school. More recently, Dallest has been driving at historic events but also does car tests for French media.
