Raced for years in French touring cars, GT racing and ice-racing. Brother of Alain, he died of cancer in 2023. Before the onset of illness, he spent most of his time as an owner of a racing school, whilst also being a driver coach and being involved in track management. Michel actually started racing first, despite being three years younger than Alain, starting in karts in 1971. He followed his brother in winning the French F3 title - in Michel's case in 1983 - but also raced in saloon car racing and sportscars whilst trying to establish himself in single-seaters. The closest he came to Formula 1 was as Ligier's test driver in 1984.
