Now runs a large Toyota dealership in Dijon and his own garage near Chalon. Cheli also specialises in Subaru cars and has opened two more garages recently. Cheli took up his business in the mid-1990's once his racing career had finished. Eric's daughter has also played tennis professonally. Cheli progressed through the ranks of French Formule Renault Turbo and French Formula Ford 1600 before moving into French Formula 3, where he won four races - three in his best season in 1988 and one in 1991. With no return to Formula 3000 likely, Cheli stopped racing in 1991, but aside from single-seaters, he also competed in touring cars briefly. Made a surprise return in 2022 in GT racing with son Etienne and he continues to do GT racing in 2023.
