Owned a restaurant before and after his racing career and it was this business and safety concerns in racing that led to his early retirement, whilst at the very top. A much underrated driver, Fischer took a number of Formula 2 wins, including at Aix-les-Bains, Angouleme, Avus and the Nurburgring during the early 1950's. Although racing was always a passion, rather his job, his success in business allowed him to form the Ecurie Espadon - Espadon is Swordfish in French; his restaurants included fish specialties - racing team which allowed wealthy amateurs like himself a chance to appear in Formula 2 events.
