3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

McLaren had two M7As with the third having been "bought" by Gurney who ran it as an Olsonite entry; Lotus brought three 49Bs and Canadian Lotus importer Bill Brack was allowed to drive the spare; Brabham brought only two cars; Honda had a second RA301 as a spare but the RA302 had been sent back to Japan for remedial work; Ferrari brought a third car as a spare; each of the Matra teams had a pair of cars as usual but both teams were running second drivers; BRM had only a single works entry plus the quasi-works Parnell entry; and Cooper had their two remaining cars entered. The private entries, apart from Gurney, were the Walker/Durlacher Lotus, Bonnier's McLaren and Pease's Eagle. So the only cars present that did not race were the spare Honda and the spare Ferrari. The second Matra MS11 was numbered MS11-03 according to Motor Sport, Speedworld International and Auto Italiana, but MS11-02 according to Autosport and Sport Auto. However, the only source to explicitly state that the car was new was Auto Italiana: "La Matra France ha portato una teza vettura, appena finita di costruire, per Pescarolo. La MS 11 003, non differisce molto dalle macchine precedenti, salvo che nella diversa foggia dei serbatoi laterali, e per l'assenza del radiatore olio sul motore, che in seguito pero, e stato applicato." ("Matra France has brought a third car, just completed, for Pescarolo. The MS 11 003 does not differ much from the previous machines, except in the different shape of the side tanks, and for the absence of the oil cooler on the engine, which was later added.")

The Brabhams now had a wing mounted over the front suspension. McLaren reverted to an aerofoil over the engine, with just small balancing spoilers at the front, and took first and second in the race.
