Formula 2 1970

Five different constructors won F2 races in 1970, BMW and Tecno leading the count with six each, Lotus with four, Brabham three and March one. However, Brabham drivers accounted for nearly half of podium finishes and about half the rest of the grid.

Clay Regazzoni in a works Tecno and Derek Bell in Tom Wheatcroft's Brabham BT30 fought for the title, the Swiss driver clinching it at the final race. However, it was the BMW 270 that was probably the quicker car with Jo Siffert, Jacky Ickx and Dieter Quester all winning rounds of the championship although only the latter was ungraded and qualified for points. Emerson Fittipaldi picked up enough points in his new monocoque Lotus 69 for third pace in the championship table and teammate Jochen Rindt won one race in his sister car.

Points table from Race Report Vol 4 p145.

The BMW team were the only ones not run Cosworth FVA engines.

Three championship races were won by graded drivers, one by Jochen Rindt, one by Siffert and one by Ickx. Maximum points in those races were awarded to Bell, Regazzoni and François Cévert in the second works Tecno . These are not included in the win totals above.
