3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

Individual sources for this event

Autosport 8 Oct 1970 pp9-15 (report by David Phipps). Motor Sport November 1970 pp1202-1204 (by MGD, Mike Doodson). Motoring News 8 Oct 1970 pp12-15 (also by MGD). Sport Auto Novembre 1970 pp22-27 including 'Les Voitures en Course' (by "Elizabeth Hayward", the nom de plume of Priscilla Phipps, journalist, ghost-writer and wife of David Phipps who was reporting on this race for Autosport). Autocar 8 Oct 1970 pp30-32 (by F. David Stone). The Motor Racing Year No 2 p116-122 (by Anthony Pritchard). Motor Sport identified all the cars with their practice times, unsurprisingly Motoring News took the same approach, and Sport Auto had full chassis number details in 'Les Voitures en Course'.

The line-up of cars was much as in Canada, but Lotus rejoined the circus with two Lotus 72s for Fittipaldi and Wisell, John Miles having been dropped, Team Surtees brought over a second TS7 for Derek Bell to drive, BRM put F2 privateer Peter Westbury in the fourth BRM P153, Bonnier arrived with his private McLaren M7C now painted in Bonnier's livery of yellow with red-and-white stripe, and two American privateers joined in: Pete Lovely with his old Lotus 49B and Gus Hutchison with his Brabham BT26A. That brought the number of entries up to 27, with three spare cars also in the paddock: two March 701s and a Matra MS120.
