3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

There were two entries from each of Tyrrell, March, Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren and Williams, just three from BRM this time, three each from Surtees and Brabham, and one each from Matra, Tecno and Connew. The three privateers were the stockbroker March, the Eifelland, and Dave Charlton's Lotus 72, bringing the total to 27 entries. The new Connew was very much a privateer effort but the team joined the ranks of Formula 1 constructors. The "Politoys", which really has to be regarded as a Williams in the same way that a John Player Special is a Lotus, was on track on Thursday morning making Williams the 18th 3-litre F1 constructor. After lunch, the Connew was on track and became the 19th. Spare cars were given their own numbers again, and were Fittipaldi's Lotus 72, Stewart's Tyrrell 003, Ickx' Ferrari 312B2, Amon's Matra MS120C and a spare BRM P160.
