3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

Two entries from each of Lotus, Tyrrell, McLaren, Shadow, Surtees and Williams; three from Brabham and BRM, and one each from Ferrari, March and Tecno. The privateers were the stockbroker March and the Embassy-Shadow, bringing the total to 23. There were six spare cars. Lotus had two spare cars, a new level of luxury, Tyrrell brought 005 in side-radiator form but did not use it, Ferrari had a second 312B3 for Ickx, McLaren had a third M23, and BRM had a fourth BRM P160. Both Ferraris were now in front-radiator specification after the original side-radiator form had been abandoned at Barcelona. The new 1973 Tecno appeared for the first time, designed by New Zealander Alan McCall, but he left the team before it was completed. It was the only monocoque on any F1 car so far in 1973 that had not been fabricated in England, and even this one had been designed by a Kiwi. Amon did very well to qualify the car 15th of the 23 and it kept doing as he finished sixth out of nine cars still running at the finish.
