3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

The entries came as usual two from Lotus, Tyrrell, McLaren, Brabham, Shadow, Surtees and Williams, three from BRM, just one this time from Ferrari, and one from March. The privateers were Embassy Racing with Hill's Shadow, Space Racing with the stockbroker March, and a March 731 hired by Team Pierre Robert for Reine Wisell. This was the March factory hire car previously raced by David Purley at Monaco. 22 entries was rather a poor turnout, but the only absentees were the second Ferrari, Tecno, who were away testing the Gordon Fowell car, the Ceramic Pagnossin Brabham for de Adamich who elected to race his new F2 Brabham BT40 at Hockenheim instead, and Hesketh Racing. The Ensign had been testing, but the team was not ready to make its debut. Nanni Galli had abruptly retired from racing, but Williams recruited F5000 racer Tom Belsö to run his car round during practice. The seven spare cars were the two Lotus 72Ds, the second Ferrari 312B3 which remained unused, Stewart's Tyrrell 005, Hulme's McLaren M23, a spare Surtees TS14A, and a brand new BT42 sitting unused in the transporter that only Motor Sport noticed.
