Better known for his drag racing and is one of the few drivers to have competed in both drag racing and single-seaters. He got into drag racing through his school friend and drag racing legend, Don Garlits. Malone had actually started his career in stock cars, but an injury to Garlits in 1959 led to a switch of careers. A pivotal name in the sport, he drove or was involved directly with the sport until the early 1990's, which included operating two tracks in Florida. He won the 1963 AHRA Top Fuel Championship. Art also had a brief career in NASCAR in the early 1960's. Malone continued to attend historic events until an airboat crash left him with injuries that he sadly, never really recovered from.
