His sons, Wally Jr. and Paul, have both had successful careers. Wally Sr. was Chief Steward of CART for many years. Now retired, but follows his sons' career and is Chairman of the Board of IRL Ministries, a religious support group for the drivers and crew of the series. Now lives in Colorado, where he organizes the Colorado 500 Invitational Charity Dirt and Road motorcycle ride each year, and also runs a ranch, garage and cabins in Colorado. Before starting racing, initially in drag racing before moving onto asphalt modified stock cars, Wally worked in the construction industry.
