In 2015, Mario returned to racing full-time again, initially in Mexican NASCAR, and then in the Mexican V8 Supercup touring car series. These drives followed a few lean years with only rallies and kart events to show for his racing output and 2016 again saw Mario without a drive. Mario was previously involved in promoting tourism and safe driving in Mexico City, but recent legal problems have put paid to that. Mario was a two-time race winner in CART and also won the 1998 Mexican F3 title. Recently, Mario took up another sport instead - bobsleighing - and although he didn't end up competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics - he was part of the Mexican Winter Olympic team. He now works as a commentator on motorsport in his homeland but returned to stock cars in 2023.
