By and large a dirt track racer, the 'moon-faced' (an unusual description of his features by the Florida Times Union newspaper), Marion later ran an engineering firm, Marion Engineering, which amongst other activities, concentrated on becoming an entrant and team owner for many events, including the Indianapolis 500. Marion also enjoyed racing boats, including power boats. Marion also raced - and won - in stock cars.
