Born in Montreal, but a long time resident of Toronto, Ontario, Nicholas graduated to Formula 1 in 2020 with Williams to become that decade's first debutant. Yet another graduate of karting, Nicholas raced in a variety of series before settling in Formula 3 racing in the Italian, British and European Championships. In 2016, he became a F1 test and reserve driver for Renault and has also tested for Force India and Williams. From 2014 to 2019, he raced in GP2 (or Formula 2 as it became), taking six wins and finishing as 2019 runner-up. He is the son of Michael Latifi, a top businessman in Canada. Latifi is of Iranian descent via his father. He remained at Williams until the end of the 2022 season.
