Andreas became team principal of McLaren in 2019. He joined them after a very successful period in charge of Porsche and their World Endurance Championship efforts. However, Andreas was in Formula 1 with BMW (and then Sauber-BMW) between 2000 and 2009, mostly as head of track operations. He joined BMW directly from University after getting a diploma in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Munich. He returned to the Sauber group as their CEO in 2023, ahead of the organisation's joint attempt with Audi in Formula 1 in 2026.
