Long-time worker with Sauber, who was head of the technical department with them pre and post Sauber BMW takeover. Stood down from them in 2010 for new challenges, which ended up being Volkswagen Motorsport's technical director. He is no longer in that role, but works closely with the firm as a consultant. He is also technical director of a new series, SuperCharge, a rallycross-esque electric car championship and even returned to Formula 1 again in 2021, as he is a part-time consultant for the Williams F1 team. Rampf has been in motorsport since the 1970's, initially working as a mechanic for a team attempting the Paris-Dakar rally. He has also worked as a chassis development engineer and a race engineer either with BMW or Sauber. Away from his work at Volkswagen, he rides and builds motorcycles, and has even raced in a rally or two in Southern Africa.
