No relation to the 'other' Bob Bell. Robert started in the sport as a mechanic for Project 4 Racing, before working as an engineering designer for Ralt, Toleman, Tyrrell and Force Lola. After Rial, he worked as a race engineer, the highlight of which was probably winning Le Mans and the World Sportscar Championship with Sauber. In 1991, he returned to F1 as transmissions and composite designer and in 1997 with the team, was Damon Hill's race engineer. Since then, he has worked with touring, rally and sports cars and in 2002, worked on a road car project with DPS on the MG X80 SV. Since 2003, he has been working as a freelance designer.
