Instrumental in Arrows and Shadow's history. More recently has been involved as a technical consultant to numerous GT teams and also appeared in some historic races in the recent past. He worked with the Historic F1 series as a scrutineer and consultant and released his autobiography in 2010. He is now the President of the 750 Motor Club and of the new International Guild of Specialist Engineers. He has designed Le Mans winning cars, rally winning cars and also enjoyed spells at Lola and Eagle. He retired from the sport in 2003 after a successful sportscar designing career. Southgate also ran his own design consultancy.
