Former Red Bull and Jordan designer who was then joint technical director at Force India. In 2011, though, he switched to Caterham to be their technical director, a role he continued in before being sacked in 2014. After a hiatus, he returned to the sport in 2015, becoming Sauber's technical director in 2015. He left the Swiss team in 2016, however. A qualified mechanical engineer, Smith started in the sport with Comtec and then Reynard as well as a spell working in Formula 3000 before joining Jordan in 1990. In late 2016, Smith moved to the HiTech GP Formula 3 team as their head of research and development. He is still involved with the company as they branch out into other motorsport activities.
