Team principal of Aston Martin, who was also briefly team principal of Audi. Wheatley started in the sport as a junior mechanic in the 1990’s for Benetton, before becoming the chief mechanic between 2001 and 2006, and being a key part of the double World Driver’s Championships and Constructor’s Championships for Renault and Fernando Alonso. He joined Red Bull in 2006 as team manager and pit crew manager, before progressing up the management chain. In 2018 he was appointed sporting director, a role he stayed in until 2024, overseeing multiple wins and championship success. He joined Sauber in a team principal role, which transferred over to Audi when they ran the team in 2026, but left them after just two races to return to England and to work with his friend Adrian Newey.
