Initially a mechanical engineer and business graduate, Lowdon worked in both sales and engineering in the power industry, he came into racing via a sponsorship deal with an Indycar team. Based in the UK since 1996, he took his motorsport involvement further by founding a Formula Renault team as well as joining Manor Motorsport (then in Formula 3 and lower formulae in Britain) He still concentrated on his business interests at this time, which included forming, in 2002, a wi-fi and technology provision company concentrating on the transportation industry. In due course, this led to Manor moving into Formula 1 through Lowdon’s links to Virgin via his company (Virgin Trains were one of the biggest customers of Lowdon’s business) and stayed with the team as they became Marussia. He left in 2015 and moved back to Manor to help them with their then World Endurance Championship team. In 2024, he became the team principal for the new Cadillac F1 team in preparation as they made their debut in 2026.
