Brad was a rodeo rider before he took up motorsport but has since ridden horses for relaxation. Murphey raced in a range of different series in his career; he appeared in funny cars, Super Vee, Trans-Am, Indy Lights, Formula Ford and USAC events. Murphey suffered a big crash at Las Vegas - which ended up being his last IRL race - which unfortunately has left him with pins and screws in his right leg. Brad currently has a ranch in Arizona and after racing went into land development in Arizona and Hawaii. Murphey attend the San Diego Military Academy when he was younger as he was interested in military flight training. Murphey followed his grandfather Nick Nichols into the sport; Nichols raced in the 1920's. Despite a number of websites claiming Murphey is Australian (largely because he has worked with so many Australian mechanics or crew chiefs), Brad is definitely American and has never even been to Australia! Brad did an interview in 2015 with the website; please find the link below.
