Later moved to America. Now back living in Naas, helping with his brother's garage, Roe Autocraft, but also enjoys kart racing. Michael also has a deep involvement with the rugby club there, but still very much keeps links with the sport, through guest-speaking and visits to local tracks. Son of a vet, who also competed in rallycross, the family firm is still run by Michael and his family. Roe was 1984 Can-Am champion who battled through the ranks despite little funding, so he worked as a stuntman before greatly impressing in Formula Ford. But it was in America where he made his name. Roe retired after a spell in sportscars in 1990. Roe's nephew, James Roe Jr. is racing and Michael is his coach.
