Of Lithuanian descent, David has also raced under that nation's licence in the past. He started his open wheel career whilst in high school in the Formula 4 UAE Championship in 2016, before moving to the ADAC Formula 4 Championship. He struggled a bit thereafter but a move back to the United States saw him enjoy a successful Pro Mazda Series in 2018 with three wins. A strong Indy Lights campaign in 2021 saw him finish as runner-up, which helped him secure an Indycar seat for 2022 with the Dale Coyne team where he remained in 2023. In 2024, he switched to the Arrow McLaren Indycar team.
