Middle name was Carlos. He was also involved in the early days of aviation as a test pilot, as well as spending time as a test driver. Died after a short illness in St. Francis' Hospital in his home town. Babcock served as a riding mechanic to Harry Grant for some years, appearing in that guise at Indianapolis in 1914, after they combined together for another major race, the Elgin Trophy, back in 1911. He was lucky to survive a crash in practice unscathed both in person and his car, when he hit a newly installed retaining wall aimed to bring a small bit of extra safety for the public at the '500.
