Herve joined Ligier as an apprentice but then switched to sidecars, and the MOC team, designing their sidecars. After spells with both Renault, where he worked on the RS01 and the RS10 and then again at Ligier, where he was in charge of research and development, he had spells at ATS and Osella designing their cars.
