Sometimes listed as a Belgian, but Vanderpleyn was French. Former AGS chief designer, who joined the team (or garage as it was then) as a young mechanic in 1960 and stayed with them for another three decades. During this time he gained a qualification in engineering and design, and in 1968, produced the AGS JH1 single-seater in the Formule France series. He stayed with the team until the late 1980's, involved in many of their technical achievements. Was working with Fondmetal in F1 when he died in a car accident on a rural road heading back to the team base in Gonfaron, aged only 49. As well as the mentioned teams, he also worked at Rial.
