Was head of Toyota's F1 motorsport efforts until 2007, when he stepped down and moved into another role within the sports and road car division of the company. He has also taken over the running of Fuji's new F1 track, which he continues to do one decade on. Tomita qualified as a engine development engineer and joined Toyota in 1969. In 1987, Tomita took over full responsibility for all of Toyota's racing engines. Formula 1 and Toyota were often linked in the 1990's but Tomita wanted to run a team rather than just be an engine supplier and so he took control, initially, of the F1 project.
