Teddy's son (born as Dale, but called himself Ted) later became a noted, Academy Award nominated cinematographer, Carole Lombard's favourite. After the Second World War, Ted also became a film director. Teddy himself was of German ancestry. A long-time Lozier employee, he broke many speed records and was a regular winner of races in 1911 and 1912. This was despite a bad crash in the 1911 Los Angeles-Phoenix desert road race which saw him injure his spine, but also suffer severe migraines thereafter. His death at the age of just forty-six was attributed to the injuries and subsquent health issues from that crash. Tetzlaff also ran a garage in Hollywood and served as a stunt driver in the movies, which inspired his son to get involved in that industry.
