Raced on in production cars into the 1920's, then became a race promoter and official. Tom was also a riding mechanic for Stutz and became a superintendent for the ReVere factory, as well as an engineer, in Logansport, Indiana. He quit racing in 1920, after failing to pass a fitness test for the Indianapolis 500, mainly due to injuries from past crashes - the most serious being in 1916 when he broke his leg. Started racing in the early 1910's, with his best result being 2nd in the 1915 Sheepshead Bay AAA board oval race. He died of heart related problems in Plainfield, where he had been working, running a garage and petrol station in the town. Rooney was of Irish ancestry, with his family moving over from Ireland in the 1870's.
