Killed in a dirt-track race. Sometime Midwest based racer, he was also a car owner. Cain has been entered for races as Dan Cain, A. Dan Cain and as above, his real first name and initial. Cain was largely based in St. Louis, Missouri, but at the time of his death, he had returned to Decatur to concentrate on his racing career, which he undertook as his profession. He was a regular dirt-track oval racer at the Macon County Fairgrounds in Decatur, coming second in the various twenty mile races held twice in 1927. His death happened after he skidded and hit a rut in the road, which saw him crash through a fence, into the crowd. Although nobody in the crowd was hurt, Cain died on impact.
